Small Cherry Tankard, no hoops

 Cherry is found all over the Northern hemisphere, but usually only in small numbers. It is quite a difficult wood to make tankards from, because the colour varies so much, from virtually white to a golden-red colour, making it difficult to match the staves, and gum pockets (little red streaks) are common. When first cut, Cherry is a usually a pale red-brown, sometimes even pink, colour but on exposure to light it usually darkens rapidly to a much more pleasing golden-red colour.
