Large Walnut Tankard with brass hoops

There are 21 species of Walnut and it is found all over the Northern hemisphere, including Asia. The sapwood is a pale brown, (like milky coffee) and the heartwood is a much darker chocolate colour. Depending on how it is dried, it can even have purple highlights, but on exposure to light, the purple soon turns to a shade of brown. This is the darkest of the woods I routinely use, and although it is usually a dark chocolate colour, it often contains lighter streaks. Some people find Walnut too dark, but many love it and it's second only in popularity to Oak on my craft stall. Walnut is the most expensive wood I use, hence the Walnut tankards are £2.00 more than the others.
